The Grid Food Market

Power Plant Mall, Makati

Conceptualizing the interiors for The Grid was a delight. It was the first time the team —the owners, the brand and space designers, was to forego unique store names and brand identities in favor of highlighting the food each stall served. The whole concept was to declutter and simplify the experience so the customer can turn his/her attention to the food, the ambiance, and the company of peers and family.

For The Grid, our goal was to give the customer a pleasant experience instantly. The wide storefront is glazed end to end allowing mall passersby to view the activities inside. An array of entrance doors welcome them in, leading them to a neutral color palette and neoclassical interior of terrazzo floors, black steel frames and walnut wooden slats. The brightly, but warmly illuminated open dining hall holds communal seats and tables, neatly arranged in front of the food stalls that line the perimeter of The Grid. At the center, the customer finds an accommodating beverage stall and bar seats, anchoring its fellow food masters. Stalls are designed as transparent boxes of steel and glass, sharing each one’s masterful cooking skills and food preparation —show windows that feast the eyes and tastebuds of the curious diner.
