Hanamaruken Ramen

The Grove by Rockwell, Pasig

Upon learning that the heart and soul of this ramen house was a family of meat dealers in Japan, we instantly saw an interior of dark heavy wood, warm lighting, and an arrangement of furniture with narrow walk spaces. Long communal bar-style dining tables that faced the open kitchen were a common set up in Japanese ramen houses, but to serve the local culture of dining in groups with family and friends, we maintained a mix of long and short tables where patrons can sit to their own liking.

We kept the interiors minimal in decor, but brought in enough accessories and photos to share part of the creator’s native culture. We made sure to use locally sourced materials for the restaurant —from the custom-made furniture, to the tiles & decor, lighting fixtures, and abaca ropes —a gesture to simply celebrate both countries.
